Day 7

An early start for me.  Graeme had ordered chicken breyani (Durban style) for the bring and share lunch after church, which started at 11 am.  I had managed to collect the ingredients during the previous weeks, and had the pot cooked and ready by about 10am.

We had a record number of folk attending (about 80) and there was a good response to the messages.

At 3 pm we had a "picnic" meeting at Rosemary Plain.  Claudia could not get over the sign post showing the way.....

  About 20 cars arrived, and most people chose to sit in their cars and listen to the message.  A few got out and enjoyed listening to the music and message in the open air.

After the picnic, we had an informal church meeting of testimonies and singing at 7pm

Arthur and Danny managed to rush over after ending a shift, and Claudia took this photo of them with their respective parents.

Day 6

Early to work - 7.00am - to set up the schoolroom for a Coffee Morning.  Claudia, Joe and I were involved in this event.  I arranged tables, welcomed people etc, Claudia played the piano accordion, and Joe preached.

While we were drinking tea/ coffee, Graeme and Errol were holding another open air meeting at the Cannister.

From there we went to the Consulate Hotel for lunch. 

Graeme, Errol and Claudia then went to visit the Marches in Blue Hill, where musical instruments were once again produced and played. 

  On their way back they paid a visit to Jonathan (the tortoise) before we all met at Anthony and Elaine Hopkins for supper.

Then off to another open air meeting - outside the Market, opposite one pub, and next to another.  (Good preaching position)  We even had some folk walk out of the pub and stand outside and listen to the message.

Day 5

Each morning we went over the day's plans and checked who was responsible for what.

Joe took the assembly at St Paul's primary school, then visited the sheltered accommodation at Cape Villa.

In the afternoon we were taken on a tour through the Argos fishy factory.

This time our evening meal was provided by Eric and Wendy Henry.

Afterwards Joe spoke to the teenagers at the New Horizon's centre, before strolling over to the Mule Yard for another open air meeting.  The Mule Yard is an open area that is sheltered by a high roof, and is also directly adjacent to an open air pub.  (Gave an interesting vibe to the meeting)  All the seats under the roofing were taken, and many people sat listening outside the pub, or sat along a wall at the playground.  Both Errol and Joe gave messages.

Day 4

Errol, Graeme, Claudia and I were at the Cannister in Jamestown in the morning, holding an open air service.

 Joe stayed at home to do some preparation as he was scheduled for a marathon radio day - 2 hours in the afternoon on St FM and another 2 hours in the evening accompanying Gareth on SAMS radio. There were many good comments from listeners about both radio shows.

While Joe was talking on the radio, Claudia, Errol, Graeme and I visited with Beatie, Fransie & Dion whom they had befriended while Dion was in Cape Town a few months ago receiving medical treatment after falling down a precipice trying to rescue a lost sheep.  Beatie's brother, George and his wife, Florrie joined us.  We had a huge meal (11 dishes).  During the meal, Claudia noticed a piano accordion lying in a corner.  When she asked about it, Beatie told her that it was left by a previous pastor's wife (Carol Coats).  Claudia offered to play for her dessert.  Graeme then nagged Dion to get out his guitar.  Then George just "happened" to have his bag of harmonicas with him.  We ended up having a wonderful afternoon of music and singing.

That evening we all went from Beaties' home to a service at the Sandy Bay chapel, where the music playing continued.

Day 3

Errol took the assembly at Pilling School (directly opposite the Baptist property in Jamestown) while Joe visited the severely disabled at Barnview in Longwood.
We have had an unusual amount of rain over the past month or so, and I noticed that the heart shaped waterfall actually had a good stream of water flowing down it.  I loaded Claudia into the car with her camera (that is a permanent fixture around her neck) and took her to see it.

Arthur called to warn us to keep a look out for falling rocks, as some had already dislodged onto the Ladder Hill road.

In the afternoon we visited the patients at the General Hospital.

Our evening meal was provided by Gareth and Edyta, and the services were held at Bradley's Camp (where the Basil Read labourers are housed) and the Longwood Community Centre.
